The squeak

Months ago, every few days I would hear a little squeak.  It wasn't long enough to tell where it was coming from.  This happened for a couple of weeks.  Then I started hearing it once or twice a day but it was still too quick.  I started thinking maybe it was one of the smoke detectors announcing that its battery was low but I wasn't sure.

Finally, it started happening more and more and we realized it was coming from the refrigerator.  We pretty much didn't do anything about it though.  We were kind of waiting to see what would happen LOL.

Then a couple of more weeks went by and I bought some ice cream from Schwans.  I only had it about a day and when I went to get some and it seemed very soft.  I checked the next day and the ice cream seemed like it was really starting to melt.  I mentioned it to my husband so he put a thermometer in the refrigerator and freezer part and turned up the controls.  In the meantime, I naturally had to eat up all the ice cream because it was melting ;-).

For a couple of days we checked and obviously something was wrong because the temperature wasn't going in the right direction.  Luckily the meat was still frozen.

One day we were talking about if we would have to buy a new fridge, when suddenly I remembered I hadn't heard the squeaking noise for a while . Then we started thinking about when the last time the fridge was pulled from the wall and cleaned in the back.  Uh oh, it was years.

He pulled it out.  Oh my goodness, I wish I would have thought at the time to take a picture but unfortunately, I didn't.  There was so much dust over the back of it.  I think the squeak was a "scream for help" from the refrigerator that we didn't understand at the time LOL.  My husband vacuumed it all out and it seems to be working now.

So, this is a PSA.  If you ever hear a squeak coming from the fridge - it might be your fridge asking/pleading/screaming for help - just sayin.

Saturday Centus #4

It's time for Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus.  She gives us a prompt and then we have to write the rest with 100 words or less.  The prompt will be in bold letters.  Go to this link to either read or participate.
http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/2010/05/saturday-centus-week-4.html

***********

As Dad and I drove out the driveway, many childhood memories flooded back.  Since mom ran away, we were all we had.

We were going to our usual restaurant on the eve of my wedding.

We ordered a drink and then dad disappeared.

After some time, the waitress came.

“May I help you, miss? You look puzzled.”

“Mmmm… thank you, I’m just looking for my father. We came in together a moment ago, but he seems to have wandered off.”

Suddenly, I heard familiar music.  I followed it to the patio.  There my father stood surrounded by twinkling lights and roses.  As his hand reached out, I fell into his arms for one last dance and he whispered in my ear "You will always be my little girl".

Friday random thoughts

1.  The more I read the people doing Saturday Centus, the more I know I have a lot to learn.  There are some really good writers out there.  If you don't read it, please do.  You'll be amazed by them, as I am.  Join in it's a lot of fun.

2.  I'm glad I never got involved with Lost.  Seems like some people are happy and some are unhappy campers with the finale.  I guess the TV station in my area that showed it had problems with their equipment and people were complaining that some of it was unwatchable. They are supposed to be re-broadcasting it.

3.  It just makes me heartsick when I see those poor birds from the Gulf Coast with that black oil all over them. I can only imagine what it's doing to the fish below.  Now they are saying some of the people that are doing clean up are feeling ill.  If this isn't an advertisement for alternative energy I don't know what is.

4.  Tuesday was Dinner Friends.  We went to a restaurant that we had never gone to before.  I wasn't too thrilled because by the name of it, it sounded like it was primarily a seafood place yuck!!  I was pleasantly surprised they had a wide variety of foods.  I had a salad, Baked Penne Bolognese and my 2 glasses of White Zinfandel.  We ate on the patio which with the little breeze we had, it wasn't too hot.  It was pretty much a perfect Dinner Friends.

5.  When I came home, my husband was planting the last of the marigolds in the front.  They already have added a little bit of color.  Our rose bush has some buds that are getting ready to burst open in the next couple of days  ;-)

6.  We took the half of sheet cake to the nursing home for mom's birthday on Wednesday.  It was a big hit.  The residents kept telling me how good the chocolate cake was ;-)  I think it was a nice treat for them especially mom because she's a diabetic and normally isn't allowed stuff like that.  I guess they announced my mom's name over the intercom in the morning saying it was her birthday and they gave her a Happy Birthday balloon for her wheelchair . If you click on the picture on the right hand corner, you can see where Mom swiped some icing LOL.

 7.  That's all I have this week.  I'll probably be doing Saturday Centus, so if I don't see you there have a good Holiday Weekend.

Alphabe-Thursday

For this week for the letter S,  I chose the word squirrels. and my stormy feelings for them.

When we lived in our old house the lady a few doors down would feed the squirrels all the time. If she wasn't fast enough, they would climb her patio screen door just to let her know they were waiting. I was very surprised that they would do that.

I still lived on that street and my son was little.  I was taking him for a walk in the stroller one day around the block.  I was on the street where I was going to turn on to my street and what did I see, a squirrel in the middle of the sidewalk.  I kept walking thinking the squirrel was going to scamper off but it was strange, he didn't, he just stayed there.  I stopped.  The squirrel and I had a stare down to see who was going to be the first to flinch.  It was me.  I then went to the sidewalk across the street.  That darn squirrel followed me and stood his ground again.  Another stare down LOL.  Back I went to the other sidewalk and sure enough - stare down.  I turned myself around and went back the way I came.  I couldn't believe it but I was scared of it.  I was seriously afraid it was sick and if I would have pushed the issue it could have jumped right in the stroller.

Since we've lived at this house there's been other things that squirrels have done that have ruffled my feathers.
Every year my husband plants sunflowers in the front yard. They are always spectacular.   Every year when they are done, he cuts them off and puts them on the back fence for the birds and squirrels to eat.  The last couple of years though the squirrels can't wait and chomp them off the stocks.  So not cool.

If you've read my blog this might be a repeat but it still ticks me off.  Two years ago when my husband planted our garden something was stealing our tomatoes.  It was something sly, savvy and sinister.  This was the first time in all the years we lived here this happened.  We couldn't figure out what scoundrel was taking them off the vines.  Sometimes they were left on the ground with a big piece taken out and sometimes they were totally gone.   My husband called me outside one evening when he was sitting on the back porch.   Lo and behold, there was a sneaky squirrel up in a tree eating a big tomato. I was shocked because I didn't realize they would eat them.  I was also sorrowful because if you've ever had a bird feeder, you know they are smart and they've got skills.  There is no way to stop them once they have their sights set on something.  We had significantly less tomatoes that year.  You can barely make it out but here's a picture of the squirrel with the tomato lol.
I looked on the internet about tomato thieving squirrels and found many people complaining about squirrels taking their tomatoes.  Who knew it was such a big problem.  Luckily, last year they stayed away from the tomatoes.  I don't know what will happen this year.

I know there are squirrel fans that are probably reading this and have a different perspective than me.  I really do like squirrels as long as they are at a distance and not eating our tomatoes LOL.

Go on to Jenny Matlocks and see what others have posted for their S words for Alphabe-Thursday.  I can hardly believe there are only 7 more weeks left of Alphabe-Thursday.  http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/2010/05/alphabe-thursday-s.html

Party time

My cousin emailed me and said she was bringing a cake for Mom on Sunday for Mom's birthday.  So we went.  There were my two cousins, their husbands, my brother, his wife and us.

I didn't tell mom about it just in case something happened.  We were the first ones there.  We sat in the lounge area and talked.  Then my brother and his wife came.  My mom didn't suspect anything.  Then my cousins and their husbands came with a bunch of balloons and a cake.  She was so surprised.  Although she thought it was her birthday and just didn't remember.  I told her they were there to celebrate her birthday which is Wednesday.

It was great to see everyone.  We all laughed and talked about old times.  I guess everyone's at that age now that's what we talk about when we were kids, the old neighborhood because they lived at my grandfather's for a while too LOL.

Everyone had a piece of cake.  It was marble cake which was very good.  Mom wanted me to give the roommate a piece.  So, I took one to her but I'm not sure she even knew who I was ;-).  We gave the rest to the nurses station and I think the aides ate it.

                                                     Me, Mom and my Brother

Mom was thrilled and that made me happy for her.

Losing my mind or need new glasses

So on Saturday, I take out some sloppy joes from the freezer that I had previously made.  When husband was going to the store, I told him to pick up some hamburger buns.  He said, "I think you took out spaghetti sauce".  I looked at it and said "No, its sloppy joes".

When it was time to heat it up and I opened it,  sure enough it was spaghetti sauce.  Change of plans, I had to make noodles instead.  Although my husband still ate his on hamburger buns.

Sometimes I think I'm losing my mind.  I guess I should have REALLY heard him and not believed my lying eyes LOL.    I had that nice mental health day on Friday; however,  I don't think it was long enough.

Saturday Centus #3

It's Saturday Centus Day.  Go over to Jenny's to see what people wrote for their 100 words minus the prompt.  http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/2010/05/saturday-centus-week-3.html

I look back over my shoulder, squinting into the late afternoon sun, gawking with stunned alarm at the broad rolling muddy waters of the Mississippi.

All of a sudden I see something rising up out of the water.  Its huge, muddy and the ugliest monster I've ever seen in my life and then I'm awake.

Hours later the dream is still bothering me although by now I've forgotten exactly what the monster looked like.  I decide to go check out the Mississippi with a little trepidation.

As I go back to the place in the dream, all I see is the beautiful Mississippi clear and clean as always.  I wonder if this an omen,  just a nightmare or both.

Friday random thoughts

1.  I decided when I win the lottery, I'm hiring a cleaning person.  I'm so not into it after all these years.

2.  Survivor - WTG,  Sandra. Who the heck were all the people who voted for Russell to win the $100,000?

3.  I've been having some trouble when leaving comments, sometimes they show up sometimes not.  The same for getting comments.

4.  Anyone watch Biggest Loser?  I'm not sure who I want to win.  I have a feeling there might be something going on with Michael and Ashley.  Love connection ?

5.  I'm almost done with all mom's stuff from her house.  I'm still waiting on the final water bill, ugh!!.  I called a week and a half ago to see where it was.  Supposedly, they read the meter for the final bill on April 13th still haven't gotten it.  I'm going to wait another week and then call up and moan to them again. Why are county agencies so slow.

6.  I feel like I have to learn to put blinders on and tape my mouth shut regarding something (unfortunately not for anything fun ;-))  I am so not good at that LOL.

7.  Next week should be pretty fun - dinner friends night and mom's birthday.  I'm going to order a half a sheet cake and take it to the nursing home to celebrate with her and the other residents.  On Sunday my cousins and my brother and his wife will come and we'll have a little cake with mom for her birthday.

8.  Speaking of Mom, her leg is getting better although she's still somewhat confused.  It is what it is I guess.

9.  Yesterday my husband left to go fishing about 6:30  a.m. and didn't get home until almost 7:30 p.m. While he was gone,  I did minimal straightening of the house; was on the computer; played bookworm;  read a book some;took a nap;  knitted; and watched TV.  It was a little bit of heaven ;-)   I called it a mental health day which I haven't had forever.

10.  Have a great weekend everyone.

Alphabe-Thursday

For the letter R I picked Relay for Life.

After getting done with my treatments in  December 2004, I participated in my first Relay for Life.  My friends and I got a group together and walked.
It is a heart warming event especially if you are a cancer survivor. I don't know depending on where you do your relay if they are all done the same way.  But at ours,  each person on a team gets a t-shirt.  If you are a survivor you get another t-shirt.  Also, before the relay starts they announce your name, how long you've been a survivor, you also get a medal and one carnation.  You can invite one person to be with you which is usually a caregiver.  Then you take the first walk.  Then the survivors with their caregivers get a free meal.  Naturally, I took my husband.

While the survivors are eating, the teams start walking.  They announce each teams name.  Our team was called "Steps for Hope".  We carried this banner.
My husband made it.  If you notice the big letters were little footsteps LOL.  The relay starts in the afternoon and doesn't end until the next morning.

There are all kinds of little things going on during the night besides walking.  Teams sell stuff like food, drinks, jewelry, to make extra money to donate.  There are games and challenges.

Before the relay, you collect money either as a general donation or you can buy a luminaria that is put out along the way that relayers are walking that are lit and has a person's name that either is going through cancer, is a survivor of cancer or died from cancer.  Sometime during the night, they announce all the names on the luminaries. It is really beautiful at night when you see all the candles lit.  They changed after a couple of years from putting candles and sand in bags when it rained and put them in plastic containers.

There also is a ceremony where they let go of balloons.

             I walked in 2005 - 2006 and 2007.   These are the medals I got.

In 2008, I went and got the t-shirt and then my son called and I had to leave because there was an emergency at mom's house.  In 2009, I missed again because mom was in rehab.   Hopefully, this year I will be able to participate some.

If you ever get the chance to participate in the Relay for Life I would encourage you to go.  It is a wonderful event.  If you can't, why not make a donation to you local relay.  I would like to see nothing more than cancer eradicated from the planet.

Now, go over to Jenny's and see what others have done for Alphabe-Thursday for the letter R

Ride em Cowboy

When my son was little I was looking out the front and noticed a man walking down the street with a pony.  I always wanted to have my son's picture taken on one, so I hurried up and we went outside.  It was the first and last time I ever saw the guy.  It was a good thing I happened to be looking out and saw him. It was taken with one of those old Polaroid cameras.

Blogging question? edited

I have a question.  I notice some people every time I comment on their blog they email me.  Some comment on their blog to me.  Some don't do anything.

I fall into all three of these categories of what I do LOL.  Do you pretty much stick to doing one thing?  Why did you choose to do it that way?  I'm thinking I need to pick one thing and stick to it but  I'm not sure what  ;-)

Edited:  I don't think I made myself clear in this question. I'm talking about after commenting on a person's blog.  Some people email and say thank you for commenting, etc.  If I asked a question in the comment some people answer under my comment which I don't always think to go back and look.

Saturday Centus #2

WEEK 2 PROMPT
The small Cessna 172 picked up speed as it roared down the runway, Sara at the controls, the flight instructor beside her,

and they were off.

This was to be Sara's last lesson with the instructor before the big test to get her license.   She felt good about herself.  She was so close to finally accomplishing the goal she had set for herself since she was a little girl.

As they landed the flight instructor looked at Sara and said "You did a great job Sara.  You should have no trouble passing the test".  Sara looked at him and said "Thanks Dad, I couldn't have done it without you".

This has been Saturday Centus at Jenny Matlock's where you get the prompt and have to come up with 100 words or less to finish the story.  People will be participating all week so check them out  http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/search/label/Saturday%20Centus

Friday random thoughts

1.  This spring has been so crazy.  Some days it's in the 80's; other days I've had to turn the furnace back up.  It will be interesting to see what kind of weather we'll be having in the summer.

2.  My husband has been getting the vegetable garden ready.  He planted the green beans so far.

3.  I can't wait until we get the flowers for the front.  We could use a little color although the trees have most of their leaves now.  My husband started the sunflowers seeds in the pots.  Now just to wait until they grow and he can put them in the ground.

4.  A couple of years ago, my husband took the rose bush out and bought a knockout rose.  This year the old rose is coming up in a couple of places.  He dug them up and put them in the back.  Hopefully, they will grow back there.

5.  Are you all over the country (U.S.) having problems with your mail carriers?  They use to come at regular times.  Now we have different mail carriers every day and sometimes don't get the mail until 4 or 5 o'clock.  I hate it.  Everyone I talk to around here is having the same thing.

6.  Did anyone watch Betty White on Saturday Night Live?  I loved it.  Also, it was great to see a lot of past SNL women members.

7.  I feel like I'm running out of things to blog about.

8.  When I saw Mom on Wednesday, her leg is finally starting to look better.  Hope it keeps improving.

9.  I like Jenny's Saturday Centus.  It is really a challenge to come up with 100 words or less.  I'm probably going to be posting mine early because I don't want to read anyone's until I'm done.  I'm afraid I'd be influenced with what someone else does LOL.

10.  Have a great weekend.

Alphabe-Thursday Q

People I must admit the letter Q almost defeated me but I finally came up with something.  It's a series of books I've been reading for many years called The Elm Tree Quilts by Jennifer Chiaverini

The first book I read was called The Quilter's Apprentice. A young couple moves to a small town and Sarah takes a part time job to help an older woman to get her estate ready for sale.  The older woman is a master quilter.  Naturally, there are problems and other woman become involved in the story and a lot is brought about because of the quilting.  I think its a really good womens friendship book.  If you like those kinds of books like I do.

After reading it, I then found out it was a series of books.  So far I've read 8 and I've got another 3 here.  When I looked on Jennifer's web site now there are 19 in the series.  YIkes, am I ever behind LOL.

She also has a couple of books to make quilts from the different ones she mentions in the books.

I would love to know how to quilt.  I think they are beautiful but to buy them they are very expensive especially the handmade ones.

My husband's grandmother's house upstairs had a big quilting room.  Oh how much fun it would have been to be in that room when there was quilting being done.  After reading some of the Elm Tree series, I just imagine the goings on and the tales that were told when she had people over to quilt.

Oops, I trailed off there LOL.

If you like women's friendships books you might want to try The Quilter's Apprentice.  You may or may not get hooked like me.

I'm really anxious to go check out the other Q posts at Jenny's.  I'm just quivering with excitement.  Why not  take a peek http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/search/label/Alphabe-Thursday

I got nothing but

what the heck Cavaliers?????????

Kdg. Field Trip

When my son was in kindergarten they went on a field trip to the zoo. I was one of the chaperones.   It was my first time and I was kind of nervous about how it was going to go.

Things were going okay but I seemed to have one troublemaker in the group.  For the elephants, sometimes they were outside or sometimes they were inside the building.  The day we went they were inside.  While we were on our way out,  I was counting the kids and the troublemaker was missing.  I was frantic having all the kids run around and look for this kid.

All  of a sudden troublemaker jumps up from the side of the water fountain where he was hiding from us, just laughing and laughing.  It wasn't too funny to me.  I almost had a heart attack ;-)

Every time we went on a field trip after that,  I always tried not to have this kid in my group.  If I did, I made sure I kept a closer eye on him.

Mom

Boy, florists and other stores must make a mint on Mother's Day.  Practically, every person I saw come into the nursing home either had fresh flowers or plants.

I was shocked when I went to the florist and paid $23 for three purple and white carnations with greenery in a vase.  Not that I minded paying but I have so many of those little vases at home.  I could have gotten more flowers for less and put them in the vase myself and had left over for me LOL.  I think that's what I'm going to do the next time.

Mom's doing okay but that left leg is still bothering her a lot.  I read up on hematoma's and it said it can last for weeks or months.  Besides seeing  the nurse practitioner on Monday, she saw her new doctor on Wednesday.  Right now, when she's in bed they are having her legs elevated and are putting warm compresses on it.  There's a chance if it gets worse they might have to drain it Yuck!! I'm a little concerned where this is going.  I did get a chance to meet the nurse practitioner on Friday.  She seemed very nice.

Since we sold Mom's house I had some money to spend, I bought her a new hearing aid for her left ear since that one hasn't worked for a while.  She's going to get it today.

Saturday Centus

My untied shoelace changed my life. As I leaned down to re-tie it, I had kicked away a few leaves. When I turned my head slightly to look where the leaves had been. I was astonished to see a rubber-banded wad of hundred dollar bills nestled in a little indention in the muddy ground.

I looked around and the street was desolate.  I took the money home and wondered what to do. I kept up with the newspaper and television to see if there was anything about missing hundred dollar bills.  Nothing.

The untied shoelace changed my life but not in the way you would think. I  promptly put the money in the bank and was now the "keeper of the money" just in case the owner ever did come to light.  If that never happened, I would let my son worry about it when he inherited it LOL.

**********************************************************************************

This is a new thing at Jenny's called Saturday Centus.  On Saturday she gives a prompt (which is the first paragraph) and then we have to come up with 100 words or less after it.  We have all week to do it and then link up at any time.  I hope this is right.  I'm sure she'll tell me if I'm wrong.  Go check it out all week and see what people come up with and also you can join it.  I must say it's pretty hard coming up with only 100 words or less.

Happy Mother's Day

Even though mom won't get to see this, I thought I'd tell you some things about my mom.  I bought her a card and will stop at the florist to get her a bud vase with some flowers since that's about all the space she has enough for in her room.

Some things you don't know about my mom.  She was the driver in the family because dad didn't drive.  She would take us all over when we were kids.  She was very involved with our elementary school being a noon aide.  She used to help the nuns and drive them places.

She was always very fun loving.  A couple of embarrassing things she did when I was young was for a couple of years when we went for Christmas to my one aunt and uncles house she would dress like Santa Claus.  She would wave to the people as she was driving in the outfit.  Us kids, use to duck our heads so no one would see we were with her LOL.  Also, she had an old car and decided to paint it pink.  OMG, talk about driving in an eyesore and having people look at you LOL.

After I got married, when she would come to our house she would always bring what she called "A Happy Day" present.  Usually it was something small.  As she grew older, we started bringing her "Happy Day" presents.

She always liked to sing. She used to be in the choir when she was in high school.  She still remembers her music teachers name and the old school song.   Even at the nursing home she's kinda "known" for her singing LOL.  She used to tell me that she would wake herself up from singing in her sleep.  I didn't know if that was true or not until one time she was in the hospital.  I was sitting there while she was sleeping and sure enough she started singing ;-).

Mom's birthday is in May she will be 83.  I'm going to save some stuff to tell you about her then.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day.

New ride

No random thoughts today.  It's not that I don't have some they are all just scrambled up with all the stuff that's happened over the last couple of weeks LOL.

My husband got rid of our van almost two weeks ago and bought a Colorado Truck.  I love it.  For one thing, the van was 10 years old and was on it's last wheel ;-)  We wondered if it would last until he could find something new.  It's so quiet compared to the van.

He'll be able to buy dirt now for the yard and won't have to spend a fortune on bagged dirt.  I was going to save this for Alphabe-Thursday but then thought of something else for T.  So here's our new ride.

Alphabe-Thursday

For Alphabe-Thursday I chose for the letter P - Parent Teacher Association - PTA

When my son was in elementary school, I was very involved with PTA.  At various times, I was secretary,  went to council meetings and was membership chairman.  Also, I was in charge of the birthday book club for many years.  I loved this.  It wasn't actually a book club.  It was more for your birthday a parent could donate money.  Then the child would pick a book from the library and I would put a nameplate in a book the child wanted.  The kids would be thrilled that they would have a book in the library that had their name in it.

For years, PTA sponsored a Christmas Breakfast with Santa .  One year we decided to start a Bunny Lunch for Easter so me and Magellan figured out how to do that.  We did that for a couple of years and then handed it off to someone else once it was a well oiled machine LOL.

Tried as we might, although we had a lot of people join PTA, when it came to volunteering - not so much.  Most of the time, it was always the same small group of women that volunteered for EVERYTHING.

For the most part, I really enjoyed being involved.  I was at the school a lot.  I got to see what was happening.  I knew all the teachers and the other workers. By the time my son got out of elementary school which was 6th grade, I was really burned out.  Besides doing the PTA stuff, I also was room mother every year and some times I would do things for the principal or the teachers.  When he went to junior high and high school, I just joined PTA and really didn't volunteer too much.  There really wasn't a whole lot to do in the older grades.

Were any of you a part of PTA?   Did you all have a lot of volunteers at events?

I hope you go over to Jenny's to see what others did for the letter P http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/2010/05/alphabe-thursday-p.html

Family Bar

When I met my husband his family owned a neighborhood bar.  I guess in its heyday it used to be really busy.  By the time, I started going there,  they pretty much only had a few regular customers.  My mother-in-law didn't work there anymore.

I used to love going there.  My father-in-law was the first one that gave me slo gin.  I never liked really strong liquor or beer.  Still don't.  We used to go and play the jukebox.  We would hang out with the old guys and a couple of young guys that came in.  Some times we would see my one sister-in-law and brother-in-law up there.  That's where I really got to know her.

Once when my father-in-law had to go to the VA hospital for months, my husband took a leave of absence from work to work at the bar.  Between him, my sister-in-law and brother-in-law they kept the bar going until he got better.

I wish I could have seen it when my mother-in-law had to make tons of food.  It would have been so fun.

Mom update

Mom went back to the nursing home on Saturday.  When I got there, she had another bump on the other leg @@.  The nurse called the doctor and he said he had seen it but didn't leave any instructions for it.

While this doctor we've been dealing with is okay, I found out I could switch doctors.  In particular, I could switch to a doctor that has a nurse practitioner that is at the nursing home 5 days a week.  So, I switched mom to them.  The nurse was suppose to work on it when she got back on Tuesday but somehow she managed to get it done right away.  Mom was able to see her yesterday already.  She is a Geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist and has a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Degree.  I think she will be great for mom and will get to know Mom much better so when things crop up, she will have a better idea of what's going on.

Summer vacations

When my parents were married for their honeymoon, they went to a place called Geneva on the Lake  and rented a cottage.

When we were kids we went there quite a few years for summer vacation.  It was a lot of fun.  As I got older, I met a girl my age from Pennsylvania and they would go the same time we did for a couple of years.  I wish I could remember her name.

Towards the end when we were going there, they had coffee shops with beatniks LOL.  We would go and have a cup of coffee and listen to poetry.

Does anyone remember beatniks?  Do you remember Maynord B. Krebbs on Dobie Gillis ;-)

Hematoma

After sending Mom to the hospital, all it is is a hematoma.  They did an ultrasound at the hospital and couldn't find a blood clot.  The doctor had a vascular surgeon consult.  They just need to put a heating pad on it @@.

The doctor didn't know why the one they took at the nursing home showed a blood clot.

I guess that's good it was not something more serious but nerve wracking for us.

Have a good weekend everyone.
